I did a lot of creature design work over the past year and I wanted to create something original for my portfolio to illustrate some of the new skills that I picked up along the way. So, here is the Reptilia-Artiodactyla Squamata-Canis, A.K.A. "The Rascal." The Rascal is a quadrupedal predator that I designed by combining elements of crocodile, wolf, raptor (bird), bull and iguana anatomy. I used Maya to model the base mesh of the creature, then sculpted in some muscular features in Mudbox. I used Substance Painter and some Arnold shaders for texturing and then I added a few Xgen hair descriptions for the last touch of design aesthetic. Xgen has a bit of a learning curve and I'm still working on some of the techniques that it can provide, but I'm getting better with every step along the way. I hope you enjoy viewing this concept.
